Course Overview

This course is designed to teach beginners the fundamentals of AR/VR application development in a way that is simple and easy to comprehend. This course is designed to teach you the basics of Virtual Reality, and enable you get familiar with the various software used in developing VR games, videos, and images. Teaching this course, we aim at helping you learn Unity to create VR experiences and a three-dimensional, computer-generated stimulated environment which can be explored and interacted with by a person.

What You will Learn

Introduction  

20 minutes

This is where the students are introduced to AR/VR application development and some of its use cases.
 

Introduction to Unity3D

 

30 minutes

In this lesson students are introduced to the unity engine and how to create a project with it.
Instagram and Facebook AR

filter

10 minutes This is a short pitch of the Instagram and Facebook AR filter we’re going to be making as our first AR project.
Introduction to Augmented

Reality

20 minutes In this lesson students will learn about Augmented Reality and how we’re going to be bringing virtual objects into the real world and some of its applications.
Importing assets and assets creation 30 minutes In this lesson students are introduced to the Spark AR assets, how to create them and/or import ready-made assets from various sources
Setting up the scene and making the filter 1 hour In this lesson students are taught how to put together the imported assets to make their filter.
Introduction to visual programming and adding interactivity to the filter  

30 minutes

In this lesson students are taught about basic visual scripting and how to make our simple AR filter interactive.
 

Assessment

 

2 hours

This is the final stage of the first project where each student’s work and knowledge of spark AR is checked, and help is provided in things they might have forgotten or done wrong in their project.

This is a short pitch of the virtual museum VR application we’re going to be working on as our second project.

This is where the students will learn about one of the industry standard tools used in developing VR applications and how we’re going to be using it in our project

This is where the students are going to learn about 3D models. What they are and how to get them in their application.
 

Animation State Machines

This is where the students are going to learn about how to setup animation states for their objects
 

Introduction to game physics

 

1 hour

In this lesson students will learn about simple essential game physics and how to make their objects react physically in the 3d world
 

Game Programing

 

1 hour

In this lesson students will learn a little bit more about game programming and this time by writing a few lines.
 

Setting up our virtual museum

 

1 hour

In this lesson students will learn about how to move objects around in the virtual world to setup our virtual museum
 

UI Design

 

1 hour

In this lesson students will learn more about UI Design by designing the UI for our virtual museum
 

Assessment

 

2 hours

This is the final stage of the course where each student’s work and knowledge of VR development is checked, and help is provided in things they might have forgotten.

Salary Range:

Salaries for VR developers varies depending on the sector you work in, the type of employer, your skills and experience, and your location. However, with your technical expertise in the profession, you are exposed to an average salary range of N150,000 (lowest average) to N 350,000 (highest average).

Learning Objectives

  • Create a 3D VR project targeting a device as simple as iOS/Android cardboard.
  • Create immersive VR experiences with panoramic videos.
  • Create interactive VR game plays with advanced Unity features, including Ray Casting and Navigation (Path Finding).
  • Create interactive head’s up 3D user interfaces.
  • Add support for Game Controllers and Cardboard “Screen Touch” button.
  • Take advantage of Ambisonics Audio files.
  • Use Unity Remote to test things in the Editor.
  • Bypass Unity XR SDKs and use the Gyroscope, to test things in the Editor with Unity Remote.
  • Take advantage of Unity’s Events to trigger actions on interactive objects, including loading scenes.
  • Use Unity’s Animator State Machine along with Collider Triggers, to trigger animations when passing by.
